Can the mysterious disappearance of a young teacher 57 years ago be solved? It is now a cold case, but Penny along with her friend Emily wants to solve the mystery and bring the young teacher’s body back to Hannibal, Missouri, for a proper burial.

Penny is a widow and a retired pastor. She recently moved to Ontario to be close to her best friend, Emily, who has remarried after years of waiting for news of her missing first husband.

Emily suggests that Penny follow her dream to write a book in her retirement. She begins with Hannibal, where her only son had enjoyed a vacation in the tourist town as a child, and where Mark Twain spent his boyhood. The two friends visit the town and get entangled with a couple of suspects who might have murdered the young teacher so long ago. Can they solve the mystery without being in danger?
